Remote Monitoring

Remotely, by using read-only access to the facility’s EHR, we review the residents’ records daily.

This portion of our program addresses antibiotic stewardship and outcome surveillance- both of which are a requirement for regulatory compliance.  By performing these compliance audits, we make sure the antibiotics that were prescribed meet the criteria that the facility utilizes under its antibiotic stewardship program.

  • We make sure diagnostic testing is present to support the antibiotic.

  • We review the nurses’ documentation to make sure they are not just charting “no ASE.”

  • We review medications to make sure that if additional lab testing is needed that it is ordered.

  • We are also on the lookout for trends that could lead to an outbreak and trends that indicate failed practices.

  • We review hospital records of new admits.  This information is communicated to the facility’s designee daily- usually the Infection Preventionist.

  • We also manage the facility’s infection control log.  This is usually something that the Infection Preventionists are not able to keep up to date and often has to be caught up at the end of the month. A lot can be missed that could have been prevented when this is not completed daily.  So, we do this for them and keep them informed of any issues.
